Northlew is a Devon village on the edge of Dartmoor, a lively place to live with many young families and lots going on. It has an attractive main square surrounded by traditional buildings, some of them thatched. Just off the square are a pub, the local primary school and two churches, the Church of England parish church of Saint Thomas Becket and the Methodist Church. This walk explores some of the quiet country lanes around the village, along with good footpaths and bridleways. A high spot on the walk is the church at Ashbury, commanding a great position looking out to Dartmoor in the south.
