Nuffield - Ridgeway - Britwell Salome - Swan's Way - Nuffield

This is the third of three walks starting from Nuffield, which is located on the Ridgeway and is a good area for walking.

Starting at Nuffield Parish Church, the walk follows the Ridgeway national path through the Huntercombe Golf Club before heading north over hills (and crossing the Chiltern Way) to reach Ewelme Park. Continuing on the Ridgeway, the route drops down through a wood to reach the picturesque hamlet of Swyncombe. There then follows a good climb before entering further woodland. The path descends before reaching a bridleway stretch of the type familiar to those who have walked the Ridgeway west of Goring.

Later we turn left onto the Shakespeare's Way before entering Britwell Salome via the village church. There is not a great deal to do here apart from visiting The Goose Pub, which depending on your tastes or pocket, you may wish to visit (it is pricey!)

Heading back, you pass by interesting village properties (and a park bench where you can eat your packed lunch) before turning off the country lane onto a bridleway. Here you are surrounded by gently rolling hills. Later, the route heads onto the Swan's Way, which although a dusty bridleway, has further great views. The route rises to reach the summit of Harcourt Hill before descending to the A4130.

The walk next crosses the main road and heads up the avenue of trees leading to May's Farm. The route then gradually rises across the hills once more before reaching Warren Hill Farm and the country lane taking you back to the start.

This is a demanding walk in parts, but is worth undertaking for some fantastic countryside. Further details can be found in the Additional Info' section below.
