This walk offers exceptional views towards the Victorian house at Shuttleworth, across the lake from the 12th Century church at Old Warden. The church has excellent wood carvings and mediaeval stained glass, not to mention a tree between 350 and 450 years old at the end of the car park.

Much of the countryside also offers good hedgerows and in spring, beautiful blossoms on the hawthorn. Warden Warren offers a pleasant walk through trees with possibilities of seeing Muntjac deer if you're quiet and lucky.

Old Warden Village is often quoted as the prettiest in Bedfordshire and its houses were built in the style of a picturesque Swiss village.

The Shuttleworth Estate itself also has many attractions which could help to make a full day outing. These include the Swiss Gardens, with many fine specimens of shrubs and conifers and some remarkable trees. There is also a bird of prey centre with over 300 birds. Finally The Shuttleworth Collection is a unique and world-famous flying collection showcasing the first one hundred years of flight.

There is a pub and cafe at Shuttleworth and another pub in the village of Old Warden.

PLEASE NOTE: This route does include 1.25km of road walking which may not be suitable for children.

The walk was lovely and has changed a bit since the photos were taken. I don`t think the cedar tree is there anymore. The road walk is indeed a bit tricky due to some blind bends after the Shuttleworth Collection entrance. There`s a new road between 9 and 10 but you should carry on along the bridleway as normal.

Really enjoyed the second half of this walk, but the 1km stretch on the road at the beginning was quite difficult, and at times dangerous, with children.
