Outwell and Upwell are two typical fen villages and they lie on what was once called the Isle of Ely. In days past the area would have been desolate marshland, which has been reclaimed. The paths were then uncertain and only the local folk would dare to venture out on them. Today the paths are in good order, but one can sense what the desolation would have been like as this flat fenland countryside spreads beyond what the eye can see, with a dwelling here and there and a certain beauty of its own with its vastness. The White Hart Inn is closed on Mondays. There is a varied menu to suit all tastes. They have B & B accommodation, ring 01945-773328 for more information.
