Overwater - Great Cockup - Meal Fell - Great Sca Fell - Knott - Brae Fell - Longlands Fell - Overwater

The fells north of Skiddaw are seldom visited by walkers and it is still possible to walk them for the whole day and encounter nobody. This area is great for people who prefer solitude!

The walk starts at a free car park near the private lake of Overwater and follows country lanes round to the base of Great Cockup, the first Wainwright of the day. The path is simple to follow to begin with but does fade out the closer you get to the top. The view from this summit is great, with no interruptions out to Scotland and the great hulk of Skiddaw to the south. From Great Cockup the route descends and ascends over Meal Fell and up to Great Sca Fell. From here there is little difference in height to Knott, which is the highest summit on the whole walk at 710m. The view from here is undeniably spectacular in all directions, and on a clear day the Scottish mountains are seen along the horizon. The descent is a long one, taking in two more summits, Brae Fell and Longlands Fell, before following the road back towards Overwater.
