This tour of Port Meadow makes use of some of the many waterways close to Oxford. Starting with a walk just to the south of Oxford, it picks up the Thames Path at Folly Bridge, following it through Osney Lock. It continues on the other bank of the Thames, on a very pleasant stretch through shrubs and woodland, with views across the impressively-large Port Meadow opening up. The path passes through pasture and through Godstow Lock, passing by Godstow Abbey, of which sadly very little remains. A road section through Wolvercote follows, passing by the Trout Inn, made famous by Inspector Morse on TV and which serves excellent food in an idyllic situation. The walk continues to a bridge over the Oxford Canal, where it drops down and follows the canal right back to the centre of Oxford and the canal's terminus, passing a great many longboats and bridges. The walk finishes by passing by Mill Stream, to Carfax and the city centre.

Thank you for a lovely walk. We parked at Peartree park and ride and caught the bus into town. With the postcode given entered into the smart phone, we were soon at the start point and then followed the clear instructions given to enjoy the walk along the river to Wolvercote and back along the canal into Oxford to lunch at the Turf. The Red Lion at Wolvercote has changed name to the Jacobs Inn. Otherwise, all instructions are still current. Thank you for taking the trouble to share this walk with us.

3/5/10 Tricia Daw. We completed this walk today in less than three hours and that was with coffee in The Trout and lunch along the canal. Very flat easy walking. I grew up in Oxford leaving when I married at the age of 23, 23 years ago actually, and altho' i have frequented the pubs mentioned and know the centre of Oxford well I have never done any of this walk before and I loved it. Thank you for getting me to do something I should have done years sgo!
