The route starts from a good car park on Sandy Lane, climbing up to the Old Sand Pit on Oxshott Heath where there is a war memorial and great views. We skirt the railway line before ascending the Heath to reach Esher Common. Crossing over the A3 we head for the tranquil Black Pond.

We then continue towards The Ledges, a lovely hidden gem above the River Mole, a tributary of the River Thames.

On to West End Common, 70 hectare (174-acre) Local Nature Reserve on the north-western outskirts of Esher in Surrey. It is owned and managed by Elmbridge Borough Council.

Soon we're back at the ledges for the return journey through Esher Common, crossing the A3 over another bridge to reach an enchanted wooded area with a newly laid raised path all the way back to the car.
