A pleasant circular walk in the Wear Valley area of County Durham. The route includes a good mix of roads, lanes, a railway path, a park, a nature reserve and a couple of woods as well as a a glorious riverside path.
The walk starts from the former mining village of Page Bank located on the banks of the River Wear before climbing steeply up from the river to level off in the hamlet of Whitworth. Enclosed lane-walking follows as the route intersects a popular railway path that delivers you to Spennymoor. After passing through a new housing development the walk then visits an award-winning park, a nature reserve and an enclosed lane before the route enters the picturesque Tudhoe Village. A little road- and field-walking then takes you through the glorious Coldsteam Wood and delivers you to the ancient Sunderland Bridge spanning the River Wear. The final lap of the walk closely follows the river as it meanders its way upstream to return to Page Bank.
