The walk crosses the Thames from Pangbourne using the toll-bridge and then winds through Whitchuch-on-Thames and out past fields of alpacas. It climbs steeply up onto the chalk hills of the Chilterns and undulates through fields and woods to Goring Heath with its almshouses still in use and a chapel worth visiting. It continues through the beech-woods typical of the Chilterns to Woodcote, where it is possible to get refreshments. After visiting interesting Greenmore Ponds it crosses more farmland and woods to reach Goring-on-Thames. From here for the weary there is a train to Pangbourne, but the walk is beautiful as it follows the Thames Path, so it's well worth continuing on foot.
