Penallt means 'top of the hill' and this walk keeps to the top of the hill. There is very little height gain, but outstanding views across to the Cotswolds as well as the Welsh Mountains. There may be some mud about but as the hill has a stony base the rain usually runs off. Notice the large boulders of conglomerate, the rock that formed the area. The local name for this is 'Puddin Stone'.

This is a nice walk and there are some lovely views. There are a fair few stiles. Apart from one which had a dog gate, we needed to lift our dog over, so bear in mind if dog walking. I would recommend long trousers as in places the brambles and stinging nettles are impossible to avoid. Also, where after point 6 you DO need to cross the stone stile as the path is totally blocked by ferns. After the stile, follow the faint path through the field, which soon bears right to the stream where there is a stile and bridge.
