This walk uses what are now sections of two recreational routes: the Ribble Way and A Journey through the Centre of the Kingdom.

From Pendleton an old highway takes you along the flanks of Pendle to Chatburn, where there are opportunities for refreshments, before a return through Clitheroe and field-paths back to the start. The whole route is fairly level with only one short climb that I can recall and is a delight throughout.

Walked 05/05/18 in beautiful sunny weather. Many thanks to Jim for another excellent walk. A few minor points to note. WP2 the red gate is no more it has either been repainted or replaced (unless I'm colour blind!) WP 4 - When I previously completed this walk in 2016 the footbridge over a stream near Little Mearley Hall had collapsed and there was a diversion in place - I am pleased to say this has been replaced with a somewhat more substantial structure. WP 21 - the previous comment is correct in saying that the field has been fenced off however there is a stile further along just before a stone field boundary wall which is mostly collapsed. This will allow you to cross back onto the riverbank. In the Nature Reserve the river path has been closed where a tree has come down. As this was closed in 2016 I doubt if it will open anytime soon. Just before the closure you can take a path to the left which goes uphill to a high level path. Turn right and just follow the path parallel to the river and it will eventually descend to Bradford Bridge. WP33 - the footpath has been temporarily closed due to a major housing development taking place near to where the path goes. According to the notice this will be in place till Sept 2018 but you can continue along the road past the housing development and the new road layout till you come to a cross road marked on the map as 'Four Lane Ends' Turn right and follow the road to rejoin the walk at WP 36.

Lovely walk, we did it today. To note, when you pass the Bradford Bridge and the walk says you can go either side of the fence...I would take the path to the right nearest the River Ribble as there is now an electric fence or barb wire fence to climb over if you choose to walk on the field side. Great day out though ! :)

A super walk through the Ribble Valley! This walk overlapped with several walkingworld.com walks around here. Problems with the gate at Waypoint 4 which was locked and I had to clamber over it. I have had accessibility issues with one or two paths around here previously and I have encountered slavering dogs at Mearley Hall too (not to be confused with Mearley Hall Farm). The Ice Cream shop at Chatburn does a very tasty bacon bap and a great brew! At Waypoint 19, the council have built a path up the left side of the road, so you don't have to cross or walk on the road at all now. In Clitheroe, there are one or two changes. The Tourist Information Office at Waypoint 30 has moved to the castle so basically just keep going straight on. The Bridge Inn no longer exists at Waypoint 33 and is now a Lidl Superstore. Otherwise the directions were very clear and precise, especially since I left my GPS in the car!
