The walk itself starts at Penistone Hill Country Park, near Haworth. Like Walk 1167, it heads out to Top Withins (see Walk 1167). Walk 1845 however, takes the wilder route across Haworth Moor, giving much more of a sense of the bleak remoteness of the area.
From Top Withins, the walk ascends gently to Withins Height from where, on a clear day, you can see the Windy Hill Microwave Tower (Walk 1706) and Stoodley Pike (Walk 1814), with the dark ridge of Blackstone Edge (Walk 195) between them. After dropping to Walshaw Dean Reservoirs, the walk takes the popular footpath of Dean Gate over Wadsworth Moor to the little farming hamlet of Walshaw - and here is where the views really kick in, with Calderdale, Hebden Vale and Heptonstall Church (Walk 1805) being visible.
From Walshaw, we cross over sheep pasture to a beautiful valley, which is the upper part of Crimsworth Dean (see Walk 137), to meet the Haworth to Hebden Bridge Walk. We now stay with this local long-distance path all the way back over the moor, maybe stopping off at the Drop Farm Tea Rooms for a Yorkshire cream tea and back to Penistone Hill Country Park.
