Peterchurch - Mowbage Lane - Rough Leath Wood - Wells Cottage - Peterchurch

The Golden Valley is an area of rolling hills and peaceful farmland. It gets its name from the River Dore which runs through it. Local people confused the Welsh for water, 'dwr' with the French for gold, 'd'or', hence the Golden Valley. Walks 4603 and 4604 start from Ewyas Harold, while Walks 4602 and 4605 start from the 'capital' of the Golden Valley, Peterchurch. Walk 4601 starts from Dorstone. This walk is the shorter of the walks starting from Peterchurch. As it uses minor roads and bridleways, there are no stiles. There is a climb and there are lovely views, but this walk will leave plenty of energy for Walk 4602.
