Plumpton Station is actually in the village of Plumpton Green. From there walk through some set-aside fields designed to accommodate ground-nesting birds, to the tiny, affluent village of Streat with its Elizabethan mansion and small church with a wooden spire, through horse-infested country and then up for a breezy, panoramic stroll along the top of the scarp slope of the South Downs. Descend towards a pub selling local brews, followed by the opportunity of seeing at close quarters an agricultural college, a further church and famous racecourse.
The walk can be shortened by 1km or so by starting at Streat and a short cut back to Streat is indicated. There's a quarter of an hour along a muddy bridleway, so it's best to choose a dry spell.
