Our walk begins from the small hamlet of Polkerris, taking in the picturesque sights of Cornish coast and country. On the way to the peace of Polridmouth Cove, our walk takes us past the former home of one of Cornwall's most famous authors, Daphne Du Maurier.

We now descend to the quiet cove of Polridmouth, which is an ideal place to rest and enjoy a picnic. From the cove, we next ascend through woodland to the coast path with its varying views, before we again enter woodland. There is an opportunity to visit the well-preserved St Catherine's Castle with its superb views of the river, Fowey and Polruan descending again through woodland to Readymoney Cove, where there are toilets and seats and so another ideal place to rest and enjoy a picnic.

From here there is an option for a detour to the small fishing village of Fowey. Our return journey takes us along an ancient footpath through woods, before going over lush Cornish meadows and the descent back to the quiet cove of Polridmouth to rejoin the coast path. After climbing up Gribbin Head to pass the magnificent tower with its stunning views over the sea, our final stage is along a 2.5km section of this picturesque section of coast path to return for a rest and further refreshments at Polkerris.

Longest 5.6 miles we've done! Over 8 according to our GPS! Plenty of climbs, but well worth it for the views. Lots of benches for a sit down and take in the scenery. Guide details still good. Parking still £3, even 11 years on! can't get that back in the cafés now though. Also free parking for NT members at waymark 15, £2.50 if not.

Used this walk as an inspiration - changing the ending to take in a load of geocaches on the Saints way. Great walk - superb views. Blogged at http://mappiman.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/sir-that-is-hub-nut.html
