The walk starts in Potter Heigham on the medieval bridge and takes you along a stretch of the River Thurne well-known for its birdlife. Part of the Weaver's Way National Trail, this section can have high undergrowth in summer, so walking-boots and leg cover are recommended. At Thurne Dyke drainage mill you have an opportunity to relax at the pub, watch the passing boats, or even hire cycles to extend your walk, before picking up the trail again through the village. Leaving Thurne, quiet country lanes take you through Shallam Dyke Woods. From there, open fields allow panoramic views as you follow the trail back, passing riverside chalets to Potter Heigham.

A terrific walk in the autumn sun. The whole of the walk was terrific to be honest and one I would thoroughly recommend. Even in the period of lockdown there are plenty of food choices at the end of the walk. A splendid three hours well spent.

Great walk to explore this side of the River Thurne. Lovely views over the marshes and river and a great selection of wildlife to see!

23/05/09-Karensa Stride Once we arrived at step two of this walk, we found a notice of works and the route indicated closed. Make sure you print out the map part of this walk. We took a detour via the road to arrive in Thurne village, at step 5. Without the map you would probably get lost as their are not many road signs. This detour adds on roughly a mile and a half. The closed route does not state when it will re-open.

This is a lovely walk but at point 11 do not cross the first wooden bridge with a handrail. It will take you the wrong way. Continue past the first bridge and in about 50 yards you will come to another wooden bridge without a handrail. Cross this and there is a definate path accross the field to point 14.
