A GREAT DEAL OF FLOOD PROTECTION WORK IS BEING CARRIED OUT IN THE BROADS AREA CAUSING CLOSURES TO SOME RIGHTS OF WAY. THIS WILL BE CONTINUING FOR SOME YEARS TO COME. CURRENTLY THE SECTION OF THIS WALK FROM WP9 TO WP10 IS AFFECTED, BUT THE BROADS AUTHORITY ASSURE US THAT ALTERNATIVE ROUTES ARE AVAILABLE AND SIGNED. IT IS EXPECTED THAT THIS SECTION OF THE WALK WILL BE REOPENED BY 6/4/12. THIS NOTE WILL BE UPDATED AT REGULAR INTERVALS.
APRIL 2012: WE BELIEVE THERE ARE NOW NO CLOSURES ON THIS WALK. IF YOU SHOULD DISCOVER OTHERWISE, PLEASE LET US KNOW.

Starting in the centre of Potter Heigham, by the historic bridge and boatyards, this walk takes you through quiet country lanes to Hickling Nature Reserve. Through a beautiful part of the reserve you are then taken back over a little bridge, through woods, down footpaths to a short length of the Weaver's Way that runs alongside the River Thurne. The walk then ends back in Potter Heigham again, where there are cafes, a fish and chip shop and plentiful parking. This is mainly level, firm ground, although the short stretch of marshland terrain can be soft in spring and autumn. Walking shoes are recommended. Potter Heigham is accessible via bus or car.

We intended to do this walk in late September 2011 and could not find the Tourist Information Centre at Potter Heigham where parking costs £8.50 a day. We tried to start halfway round but found many roads and footpaths temporarily closed because of flood defense works. It may pay to check before you set out.
