From the start to the finish of this superb little walk, one cannot but be aware of the vastness of the rolling landscape as it stretches out in the distance to meet the sky on the horizon. Beginning from the very pretty, tiny village of Preston Capes, the route wanders along paths and country lanes to visit Canons Ashby House and Church. The 16th Century Country House, home to the Dryden family, is a National Trust property, as is the imposing St Mary's Church, a few yards hence. Both are intriguing and well worth allocating time to allow a proper visit. The lovely surrounding area of these properties is a delight to walk through, both on the approach and departure of Canons Ashby. The rest of the journey back to Preston Capes is an experience of peace, beauty and solitude that marks this wonderful little piece of England, where time seems to have stood still.

Nice walk. Pretty much half of it on quiet country lanes. At point 2 the footpath 200 yards to the right after walking in from the road is not signposted and could quite easily be missed. Please also note there are no 2 metal gates at point 8 anymore. It is just a clearing in from the road leading to a stile

Make sure you take an OS map with you for this walk as directions aren't very clear. It took my friend and myself 2 hours just to get to picture 3. We couldnt find steps and stile in no.4 so didn't finish the walk. Done 12/3/10
