On the RSPB's newly acquired Barclye Farm reserve, this easy moorland circuit uses grass paths and old farm tracks to visit Drumwhirn Cairn, as impressive a pile of stones as you'll come across in a day's march. The walk starts in a new car park off the Wood of Cree road, rising through woodland to a deer-gate giving access onto the open moor. The route is easy underfoot and has no stiles, just a series of gates and a few railed footbridges. A short climb brings you to the top of Mill Hill and you follow yellow waymarkers as you meander across the moor. You pass the old Barclye Farm and aim for Drumwhirn Cairn, soon prominent on the southern horizon. The route then loops back, eventually to rejoin your outward path at Mill Hill. This is a breezy walk with some fine views, notably of 2,000ft-plus Larg Hill.
