A very easy to follow walk that straddles the borderline between County Durham and Tyne and Wear. This mildly undulating circular walk starts at a popular, well-established Nature Reserve and passes through a championship golf course. The route also includes a delightful elevated section where great views are revealed of the widespread surrounding countryside.
The walk starts from the Visitor Centre car park in Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve followed by pleasant lane and field walking to arrive at the village of West Rainton. Field and lane walking then takes you through Ramside golf course to the village of Low Pittington. From here the route rises up to hills around High Moorsley where there are great views of the Durham/Tyne & Wear countryside from the west, through the north to Penshaw Monument in the east. The route then descends gradually off the ridge for a very pleasant section of enclosed lane walking before the route again rises gently up to East Rainton. The last section of the walk is all downhill as the route descends gradually through the Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve to return back to the Visitor Centre car park.
