Rannerdale Knotts is a small but lovely mountain located between the Buttermere and Crummock Water Valleys. At 355m, it's not very high but its view of the surrounding area is superb. This short walk follows the beautiful Rannerdale Valley which is famous for its bluebells at the right time of year and follows a well-defined ridge to the very summit of the fell. The panorama from the top ranges from Buttermere to the south-east and along the full length of Crummock Water to Lorton Vale. The return to the parking area is steep, but is the most direct route back down the fell. If walking through the valley when the bluebells are out, please do not pick or trample on them as they are what make this little valley so special!
