The walk starts at the Heritage Railway station in the town centre and goes through Whitaker Park before climbing to a track leading to the moors. It follows a trail marked by huge boots and shoes made of local clay and designed by local schoolchildren. It ends at The Halo, one of four panticons built in the area. The Halo is a 38-metre wide light display powered by a wind turbine and it appears to float like a blue spaceship above the hills at night. To return you retrace the outward route at first before going downhill in a series of old paths now between houses to reach a gravelled track that brings you back to the start.
