The walk starts near a car park which is next to the site of the closed Rhostryfan railway station. The railway was a narrow gauge line used by the quarries higher up the hillside. It is now a good footpath and we will use a part of it for the end of this walk.

The higher parts of the walk allow views out to Caernarfon and Anglesey.

The walk uses paths which can be wet and muddy, although the old railway path is a good surface. There are also parts of the walk which can be overgrown in the summer. Maybe do not wear shorts.
