This walk takes you around the Aske Hall Estate, just north of Richmond. You begin by walking from Richmond up to the old Richmond Racecourse. You will then descend into a marvellous hidden valley. Next you ascend onto the moor and walk past Jockey Cap. You head for Gilling Wood, by which time you're halfway round.

Then you make your way down to Aske Hall for more stunning scenery. At the end of the walk, the route necessarily passes through Richmond Golf Course. I am a golfer, so this was not irksome to me, but it does raise the issue of golfers. You will have to look around you to see if golfers are coming your way. If they are, wait for them to pass and certainly don't get in the way of a shot. For this reason, it is probably best to undertake the walk mid-week, as the golf course will be at its busiest at the weekend.

One other point to note is that many of the fields contain cows and on the day I did the walk, a stock bull stood resolutely on the right of way, forcing me to take a diversion.

This was my first Walkingworld walk and it was a cracker. Excellent notes and map, never got lost once. I live locally and was amazed that I had never seen half of the landscape of the walk. Have a break in front of Aske Hall.
