This is a walk just to the east of Manchester. It starts at a small car park between the river and the canal in Hyde. The first part of the walk follows 'The Tame Valley Way' alongside the river. It crosses a major road and walks up the road for a short distance to reach a lane which is followed to reach an open area. After the open section the route follows the course of the river through some woodland to reach a second road. After crossing this road the walk passes through a local nature reserve (Haughton Dale Nature Reserve). After the nature reserve the walk continues past some cottages and alongside a long body of water (goit) before following paths to reach a bridge. After crossing the river the walk follows the river upstream for a short distance to reach some steps up to the canal. After climbing the steps the walk continues along the canal back to the start point. The canal is crossed at two points and goes under a motorway. NOTE. Part of the path between WM08 and WM09 is 'closed'. When researching the walk people were continuing along the path between WM08 and WM09 in both directions. The problem appears to be a small footbridge where several planks are missing (about 90 centimetres) with a drop of about 10 centimetres. No water under bridge. The diversion adds about 1 kilometre to the walk through a housing estate. It is up to the individual to decide which way to go.
