Robbers Bridge - Oare - Badgeworthy Water - Great Tom's Hill - South Common - Stowey Ridge Circular

Explore a part of Exmoor that has remained almost totally unchanged. Reading 'Lorna Doone', you can almost imagine the time when travellers rode their horses over these moors from Dulverton to Oare. The tracks and streams are timeless and in any season, the colours breathtaking. Look out for trout jumping at Weir Water, larks singing over South Common and if you're lucky, spot red deer and Exmoor pony. But be careful, although you are only crossing a short section of the open moor, it is easy to miss the way if it becomes misty or in heavy rain. Make time to go into Oare Church, pause to gaze at the water over the slide and stand and look around on Tom's Hill; don't rush this walk it is too precious.

7/14/2020 - Joyce Pentland

13th July 2020 Great walk, clear directions no problems. At way mark 9, typical for the moors the weather changed and became misty & rained, the compass points & distance notes were very helpful. The National Trust have bought Cloud Farm campsite & the Lorna Doone farm - www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lornadoone Apart from COVID-19 restrictions the pub and tea rooms, mentioned in the introductions were closed & in the process of refurbishment, I believe thanks to the National Trust. I'm off to read Lorna Doone now before it becomes the latest big hit!!
