Lying in a valley of thickly wooded hillsides, Rudyard Lake is a haven of peace and tranquillity just off the A523 road that links Leek to Macclesfield. This walk starts by going up to the village of Horton then follows little used public footpaths with views to the east across the Staffordshire countryside before dropping down to the northern end of the lake. Finally it is a return walk or a miniature train ride along its full length with extensive views across the water back to the start.
