Starting in the car park near the church, the beginning of the walk follows quiet country lanes towards West Caister. Along this stretch of road there are numerous mills in view to the north and south. To the north is Thrigby Postmill. The mill was built in 1792 but the top was dismantled in 1892 and subsequently rebuilt and restored in 1981.
The route passes alongside Mautby Marsh Drainage Mill next to the River Bure. The mill has been completely restored in the past thirty years and is quite simply stunning. The riverbank path passes another four mills, most of them in good condition and very picturesque. The views along the riverbank path are also worthy of note. Looking north there is the occasional view to Thrigby Postmill and also of Runham Church. South and west there are views over the River Bure to numerous mills and east there is the distant skyline of Great Yarmouth.
The return journey takes you away from the riverbank path and across open fields back towards the church at Runham.
