This walk uses parts of the Gritstone Trail and the Dane Valley Way to create an enjoyable figure-of-eight from Rushton Spencer to Wincle and return.

You will be walking along trails, across fields and alongside the River Dane and will experience excellent views. The Ship at Wincle offers a good range of beers and wines, the food is really good. Beware, it gets very busy on nice days and also at weekends.

Although the walk is well-signed, make sure you have a map (Explorer 268, 1:25000 scale) as parts go across fields and we do not want to annoy the farmers.

With reference to the comment about way point 12, my statement is a general one referring to the markers on the stiles, all of which are visible and in good condition. The instructions for way points 12,13 and 14 will be updated and simplified. Eric Davies, Walk Contributor

This is the third time I have done this walk, and have struggled each time from point 12-14.The instuctions say follow the markers they are quite clear. There are no markers. And finding the path is really difficult.I have done about 50 walks on walkingworld and this is the only walk to beat me so far.

We did this walk at the end of July. The undergrowth around the Conduit at the start of the walk was very thick, tall with lots of brambles. We went on a wet day and got very wet during this first part of the walk. I would recommend this walk for the winter when there will be little growth around the conduit. Apart from this the walk was enjoyable.

We really enjoyed this walk so thanks to Eric for the info. The instructions and pictures are excellent so no need for a GPS unit or a map for that matter!
