Most walkers in the Andratx area of Mallorca head for the coast and the walking routes around Port Andratx and Sant Elm. Although the coastal scenery is dramatic, there are attractive landscapes a little inland which are also worthy of exploration. This short hike begins in S'Arraco, a village just three kilometres from Sant Elm. We walk through pleasant countryside to the edge of the more remote hill country. In spring, wildflowers are a colourful feature of the area. At the farthest point we explore a valley which now seems peaceful and deserted but at one time, in the days before tourism when most Mallorcans earned a living from cultivating small plots of land, was a centre of much agricultural activity.
