From the start the hike climbs steeply across open country to reach a track heading generally east and later north-east. Initially following the track, we are soon on the Monte Chaparral and from here continue upwards in a NE direction to reach the ridge at about 1,400 metres. Following the ridge in a NE direction, the high point of La Cruz soon becomes clear to your right. It is easy to reach the trig point at the summit at La Cruz (1,514m) enjoying wonderful countryside and views the whole way. From the summit the hike heads north and descends into the Arroyo del Villar. Where the route reaches the camino at the bottom there is the chance to turn right and head NE to the pretty village of Navarredonda, returning the same way. This hike heads SW back along the valley to the lovely lakeside township of Lozoya, a popular spot with many cafes and restaurants.
