From Sale Water Park head eastwards along the edge of the lake. Stepping-stones lead to woodland and the Visitor Centre and then to the riverbanks. These are followed almost to Didsbury before ingeniously devised paths under the motorway bring you back to the Mersey and to Sale Water Park.

Sale Water Park has lots of good paths for wheelchair users but use an alternative route at Waymark 3 (stepping-stones!)

Did this walk with two friends Monday 17/12/2012 Some great bird sightings and we appreciated the firmer underfoot conditions considering most fields are like a swamp at the moment. Unfortunately faced a big problem walking back along the Mersey from waymark 28. We were faced with a diversion near to Jacksons Bridge (grid reference 811924) because of the constuction of the Manchester Tramway extension to the airport. We were obliged to walk away from the Mersey alongside Sale Golf Club. We got a taxi from the Club House back to the water park as it was raining heavily and we were faced with a lengthy detour along busy roads back to J6 of the M60 and then the approach road into the park. The only alternative seems to be to go from waymark 25 to waymark 15 via the A5103 and follow the Mersey downstream where the diversion for the tramway is much shorter.

30/10/2010 - Nice walk and would be perfect for wetter days as paths all good underfoot. You get used to the road noise! Couple of things to note; use post code M33 2LX for Sat Nav and not the one stated. Drive past the visitors centre car park to the restaurant one round the bend to find start of walk. Waypoint 6 - Walk down the path with Visitors Centre on your right down towards the entrance to the park. There is a path runnng along side the road. Keep on this through a metal gate, through a wooden style, through another metal gate in a dip...then go left to metal mast. Gary crosley
