We begin by walking westwards out of the little town of San Ferran and are soon wandering through the timeless Formentera countryside as we make our way southwards towards the coastal area known as Platja de Migjorn. Here we divert briefly to visit the restored watchtower called Torre es Pi Catalá (see additional information). Next is a delightful coastal stretch, mostly on wooden walkways which have been provided to help protect the fragile coastal edge. Dragging ourselves away, perhaps having swum in the crystal-clear waters, we are soon back in peaceful rural landscapes passing figs, almonds and olive trees and with the stone walls full of vividly coloured lizards – very different colours from those on Ibiza. Reaching and crossing the main road we have a slightly tricky stage which might require a little more concentration. This brings us to Can Joan Costa where we pick up a clear track again. All too soon we have reached our final turning point and have only to head south-west briefly to return to San Ferran.
