This is a low-level moorland walk near Gairloch in Wester Ross, offering superb views to Skye, Slioch and the Torridon Mountains. It's also an archaeological trail showing the changing pattern of life here over the last 2,000 years, a pattern typical of many areas in North West Scotland. Laid out by the Archaeological Unit of Highland Region, the trail indicates examples of changing settlement types and land use. Also, examples of glacial deposition may be seen in the moraines and eskers.
The path is narrow but is well-waymarked. Boots are advised and although the walk is low-level, bad-weather clothing should be carried as a precaution. It's a nice family walk. Because sheep are grazed here, dogs are not allowed.
Refreshments etc are available in nearby Gairloch and there is a shop at Big Sand Caravan Site.
