This is a lovely, varied walk through woods and over open stretches of the Lowther Hills. In good weather it is lovely and although I recorded the walk on a very rainy day, it was still very enjoyable. It is well-marked on good tracks, is very easy to follow the route and would be difficult to get lost, even in misty weather, although the Southern Upland Way section can be muddy and boggy at times. After the walk, why not pop into Sanquhar Village seven kilometres away, with pubs and tea rooms and the oldest operating post office in the world?
