Santa Cruz de Tenerife – Casa Carlos – Taborno - Bus Back

Santa Cruz is the bustling, modern capital of Tenerife. The mountainous region to the north and east of the city, the Anaga Peninsula, is a different world of wild beauty, with soaring peaks, plunging valleys and unforgettable views. The excellent bus service on Tenerife means this magnificent area can easily be reached by cruise passengers via the old island capital of La Laguna. The bus route from La Laguna to the Ruta Littoral along the spine of the Anaga passes through interesting scenery and so the rides themselves are part of a most enjoyable expedition.

The walk itself is very short, but do not underestimate it as the route involves over 1,000 feet of descent from the ridge to the village of Taborno, using the donkey trail that was the community's link with the outside world before the coming of the road. Parts of the route can be very slippery after rain – not unknown hereabouts – so time and care is needed. The views make it all worthwhile and the route can be extended if time permits, firstly to a mirador to sit and drink in the spectacle and then on towards the mighty Roque de Taborno that is such a feature of the views in the second half of the route.

An alternative interesting extension to the day is to break the return journey at La Laguna, a gracious city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, for its wealth of well-preserved buildings from the 15th Century onwards.
