Save Our Footpaths - get off the beaten track; this circular walk is very rural all of the way, and takes you along footpaths close to Chester, several of which are not often used. Some of the paths are either not marked on the map or not sign posted. The highlight of this walk is passing through the delightful Dingle Wood and emerging onto the site of the historic Shotton Castle. However, some of the route is along good footpaths, with the old bridges and wooden stiles being gradually replaced and modernised with stylish steel kissing gates and latched gates. There are three walks in this locality: the longer version 7990 and a different route in 7578.

The walk is suitable for teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in-between. It is also good for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. In summer suitable footwear will be anything flat-soled but in winter, or if there has recently been heavy rain, some of the paths may be very muddy with numerous puddles so boots would be recommended; but there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. There are no refreshments, toilets or picnic tables except at the pub at the start and finish. If you book in advance, you should be able to get a good meal with your drink; an excellent finish to a good walk, and at the same time mention your intended use of their carpark for your walk.
