From the excellent free car park at Threipmuir near Balerno this walk takes in three iconic Pentlands summits, East and West Kip and Scald Law (the tallest hill in the range) before descending through a lovely valley (Green Cleugh) to return
The climbs are steep but not long and are made worthwhile by the magnificent views from the summits over Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth, Fife and the Lothians
For walkers wanting to get a feel for hill walking this is a magnificent walk as there are few navigational challenges as the walk is mostly on well beaten paths. Obviously in very low cloud some navigational skill will be required
In Winter there are no major dangers to be wary of. The walk remains one, however on which appropriate wet and cold weather clothing should be taken
