The walk is based on the popular cafe in the village of Scorton and my impression was that it was largely a flat walk; I was surprised to find that there was about 700' of ascent, so gentle was it. The walk begins by a stream and goes across sheep pasture on well-signposted paths with sturdy stiles. The finish, by contrast, is along a dramatic and narrow valley on a gravelled bridleway with gates. On the return there are good views of the surrounding hills and of the Lancashire coast and Morecambe Bay.

We have done this walk several times without any problems. However, yesterday was a different matter. The first section is very eroded by the stream, we had to detour round deep mud beyond the stream at waypoint 6 but at waypoint 9 it proved impossible. I ended up well and truly stuck with wet mud way over my boots and up my leg. A bit scary as I was struggling to pull myself out with Mike trying to help without sinking himself. After about 20 minutes of struggling we gave up and re-traced our steps to waypoint 7 where a left turn at the farm road took us through Wyresdale Park back to Scorton. Still a nice walk but we missed the beautiful Grizedale Valley.

Another beautiful walk in one of our favourite areas. We have walked the Grizedale Valley many times but never to the left of Scorton where the first few waypoints took us. As Jim Grindle rightly says, the best plan by bus is to alight from the Preston to Lancaster service on the A6 at Station Lane, Cabus and walk down this road to the village - just over a mile. There is a bus to the village from Garstang (Super 8) but this only runs about twice a day!!
