An enjoyable walk with a great variety of terrain that includes beaches, clifftops, railway paths, field lanes, residential areas and woods. The walk starts from the large surfaced car park overlooking the sea at the northern end of Seaham Harbour. The initial 0.75 mile of the walk travels north along the interesting shoreline before leaving the beach and climbing steeply out of Ryhope Dene to intersect the Durham Coastal Path. Clifftop walking then follows for a further 0.8 miles before turning inland to travel along a railway path that accounts for one third of the length of the walk. The route then changes direction and after a short road-walk passes through fields and along a charming lane before entering the outskirts of Seaham. The final third of the walk explores the Seaham streets before the route briefly enters woods as it passes close by the historical Seaham Hall and the 7th Century Anglo-Saxon Church of St Mary the Virgin to return to the car park.

We walked this 12/04/2014. What a lovely walk. It is so varied with beach, cliff top, rail trail, woods, fields & so much more. A flat walk so suitable for all. The beach section is so interesting where you can dip in to the caves, look for fossils and much more. We loved this walk. Also, at the end in Seaham, your treat can be an ice cream sundae in Lirckety Split in town. Delicious.
