Starting from Seathwaite the gently rising walk to Stockley Bridge, following the infant River Derwent, leads you into the heart of the breathtaking, rugged mountains of the northern Lakes. After crossing Grains Gill via the lovely Stockley Bridge the route climbs steeply up following Styhead Gill to eventually reach Styhead Tarn nestling in a bowl in the mountains overshadowed by Great End, Seathwaite Fell, Green Gable and a glimpse of Great Gable. As the route gains height the views open up all around before reaching Sprinkling Tarn. The return leg gives magnificent views across Borrowdale, Derwentwater and the high peaks beyond.
