This is a short, fairly flat walk starting and ending near a pub. It is a mixture of country lanes and canal towpath. It can be very muddy between Waymarks 07 and 08, even to the extent of flooding in very wet weather and on this basis it is recommended as a summertime walk. Having said that, I negotiated that section on 19/02/19 without getting too wet, although suitable footwear is essential.

There is a notice at the beginning of the section indicating prohibition of traffic until 10/03/19 but it is then indicating this only applies if authorised personnel displays a sign prohibiting movement. I include an image of the notice in related downloads so you can make your own decision.

Re-walked this after a dry spell. Footpath closed notice still in place at wm06 but I had no problem in crossing to the canal. Still caution required after wet weather.

At wm06 there is a footpath closure notice. I believe this has just been left behind after work has been done near the river. I safely negotiated this section today, again taking care of subsidence near the river as stated in the waymark text.

I repeated this walk today and although the proposed drainage work has been postponed (target date now September 2013), the path was easily navigable despite recent heavy rain. There is a section which runs right next to the river which is overgrown and impassable but there is an easy alternative route along the adjoining field. The closure notice has been removed on the canal side but there is a totally confusing notice at the church side which involves a detour along Potters Lane which I would not recommend.

The section between waypoints 7 and 8 now has a formal notice forbidding access to this section. The current estimate for the duration of this restriction is September 2012. So currently the suggestion is to backtrack from the church retracing your steps back to the beginning.

The flooding on this walk has now subsided, but it is still very muddy in places. Adrian (Admin)

A lovely stroll through surrey with some good walking conditions mostly throughout. The section between 7 and 8, a word of warning, if it hadn't been the ground was frozen (we walked across a frozen stream) you will sink in probably up to your knees. There is a stream that passes through this section covered with grasses/reeds making it very 'dodgy' so be warned you might have to find another way round!. Other than that, superb and just the right length for the short winter days. 9/10.
