From where we parked the hike begins by walking along the road into town before turning to follow the amazing Cuevas del Sol route, passing buildings set into the cliffs. Unfortunately the town seems to permit unrestricted vehicular movement along this route, so keep your eyes open. Eventually we cross a pedestrian bridge over the river and on along a walkway for a short distance. Soon we descend some steps, then climb up to join a minor road. We have to walk along this road for about 450m, being careful to walk on the left to face any oncoming traffic. Next we fork off to climb a track, passing a country house to reach the main road above and from there, climb up another track to bring us to a ridge offering the most stunning panoramas. We will follow this ridge round its edge and skirt a stone building by olive fields.

Now we head inland beside a deep streambed for about 550m before reaching a point where we can cross to the other side easily enough. Now we walk NE for 400 metres to reach a short, steep and tricky path taking us quickly down to the bottom of the cliff face and now wend our way back down to the road through a huge olive plantation. At the bottom we cross the road and go down to the river and wade across. A steep climb brings us up to a ruined stone building and from there we have a rocky scramble up a defile to reach a huge olive plantation on the clifftop. We walk through the plantation to reach a wide track near a large house and head towards Sentenil once more. From here is an easy country lane ramble and before long we rejoin our outward route and retrace our footsteps to the start, climbing the 93 steps up to the Mirador del Carmen near the end if you have enough energy left!
