The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail is a waymarked walk which follows the high cliffs between Praia Marinha and Praia Vale de Centeanes. This circular route is for those who want to tackle the often challenging 5.7km trail to Praia Vale de Centeanes but would prefer a less demanding return to Praia Marinha (the promoted route is linear). If clear turquoise waters, crashing waves and unspoilt beaches are not your 'thing' then focus instead on the many fascinating geological features along the route, including caves, arches and stacks. Stare down into the numerous (and fenced) sinkholes and listen to the sound of the ocean far below.
There are illustrated information boards along the way explaining how erosion has moulded this limestone landscape, as well as information about local flora and fauna. Walk highlights include Benagil, a beach which is consistently voted among the most beautiful in Europe; and the Farol de Alfanzina (a 23-metre lighthouse built in 1920 and still in operation today).
