An easy to follow walk through the rolling hills of north-east County Durham. The clear route consists of footpaths, bridleways, lanes, woods, former railway lines, villages and hamlets in this former coalmining area. Great scenery now unfolds where once coal mines and slag heaps would have blighted the terrain.

The walk starts from the former mining village of Sherburn before pleasant field-walking takes you to the hamlet of Hallgarth. From here combination lane- and field-walking delivers the walker to the small village of Littletown. There follows outstanding woodland- and lane-walking that takes you to one of the highest points of the walk at Low Haswell Farm, from where there are great views of the surrounding area. The walk then changes direction and heads north-west through the hamlet of Hetton-le-Hill, followed by a panoramic field-walk to the highest point of the route before starting the ascent through Low Pittington and ending with a very pleasant flat walk along two former railway lines to return to Sherburn.
