This is a lovely, easy walk starting at Shillingford Bridge and following the Thames Path to Benson Weir and Lock before going on to Wallingford Bridge. The route leads through part of the town that is steeped in history and past wonderful old buildings, eventually leaving it behind on a very pleasant country road with a pavement, back to Shillingford. Even after extremely heavy rain, this route posed no problems to the walker.

August 2023 PLEASE NOTE: Walkers can no longer cross the weir at Benson Lock, however it s possible to take a ferry from the Waterside Cafe. With thanks to Andrew Bradbury for letting us know.

It is not currently possible to walk across the weir at Benson Lock. However, there is now a ferry from the Waterside cafe.

Beautiful stretch of river, enjoyable interlude looking at antique shops in Wallingford, and the added bonus of stopping off at the vineyard on the way back for a wine-tasting.

30-4-11 Tricia Daw A well directed walk other than at the start - parking not obvious on the O.S. map in Shillingford so knowing Wallingford a bit we decided to park and start the walk there. It was a good idea as it got the less interesting, fast roadside bit out of the way first. The walk along the Thames was very enjoyable as was 11's at The Waterside Cafe at Benson boatyard in the glorious April sun.
