A delightful walk from Shincliffe Village full of interest, featuring magnificent woods, lanes and nature trails. The route also includes the narrow, cobbled streets of historic Durham City as well as the World Heritage sites of Durham Cathedral and Castle.

The walk starts from the Garden Centre in Shincliffe Village, less than a mile from the centre of Durham City. Great lane- and woods-walking takes the walker past the old Croxdale Hall before crossing the ancient Sunderland Bridge. A little pavement-walking delivers the walker to Burn Hall Woodland Trust Nature Reserve. After fields, lanes and a little road-walking the route enters the historic City of Durham with its World Heritage buildings. The walk then leaves the cobbled city streets for a pleasant riverside ramble past the university playing-fields for a return to Shincliffe.
