From the working (Sundays and Bank Holidays, after Easter) windmill at Shipley Village you walk to the Knepp Estate, where you are likely to meet a variety of unusual grazing animals (see additional information), onwards to West Grinstead Church and then along the River Adur. Return via fields and the ruins of the old Knepp Castle. From here you can either retrace your steps, or turn off towards The Countryman pub, a little outside Shipley, where good food is to be found.

There is some walking along quiet country roads and a deafening 150 yards along the A24, as well as two crossings of that road, where great care is required.

A nice flat walk, with plenty of things to see along the way. It's been the warmest Halloween on record, as such, it was easy going under foot. At the VERY dangerous, point 12 there's no room to jump the crash barrier as it's completely overgrown, and only feet between you and cars coming at 70mph! as we found out! Probably best to walk the 150yds to a metal gate on your side of the road, then cross to the footpath sign opposite. Once over, it returns to most pleasant amble though the estate finishing with more interest at the windmill
