Sierra Grazalema El Bosque - Benemahoma River Hike

Our way begins easily enough along a paved way. Soon however, we are walking on a track that becomes a footpath close to the river. As the valley closes in we are on an undulating rocky footpath in shady woods, crossing and recrossing small bridges whilst the river increases in force as it is constricted by the topography. As we near the village of Benemahoma the valley widens and the river becomes a little quieter and our way easier. To visit the centre of Benemahoma (about 700m above sea level) we face a stiff climb, but there are a variety of hostelries to ease our pain. We trace our footsteps enjoying the opposite perspective of the river's cascades and swirling pools until we reach Waymark 4 by the now defunct electricity generating station. From here we take an easy track high above the river which brings us to the interesting Jardin Botanico. Now we simply wander down through El Bosque to its charming centre by the town hall where there are bars and restaurants before continuing back down to where we parked near the bus station.
