This walk was originally submitted by Tony Brotherton. Walkingworld is very grateful for Andrew Long taking over the walk, March 2022. Some information may have changed since the walk was first published.

Explore the paths and glades of Pamber Forest Nature Reserve and the quiet lanes around Silchester on this tranquil walk of easy gradients, which takes in two pubs and skirts the Roman Town of Calleva Atrebatum (close to Waymark 25).

Nettles and brambles are no problem on this walk, except for some in the field after Bramley Lane in Waymark 23. Pamber Forest is a butterfly stronghold. Also, Highland cattle sometimes browse there.

Walk reviewed and updated especially WM7/8 where locations have been changed slightly. WM14 updated to take the Walker on a path running parallel to the field before rejoining the old route at WM15. Only one stile on walk but in March it was very muddy! You shouldn’t need to rely on maps and compasses anymore.

Interesting walk around the forest. Some of the gates have changed/ been removed since this walk was published. It is easy to get lost in the forest and I found my iphone useful for gps position. Can be muddy in places. The field at point 24 has a warning; cows with calves and they may be aggressive. An alternative is to turn right towards the road and then left at St Mary's church and continue until you pick up point 25.

We have just completed this lovely walk. The directions were very clear and the compass directions a real help in the woods. There was the added bonus of wonderful bluebells at Dickers Copse and the other small copse referred to in the instructions for point 24.

Great walk for a summers evening. Woodland is cool! There are nettles in WM23! 2 WM's are missing in GPX file and some of grid ref's are a bit off. Will send through corrections
